Hello Trey, thanks for taking the time to do this interview.
![]()
Absolutely and thank you for this opportunity to sit down with you again and answer some of your questions about Green Geeks.

I have known you for several years and you were always involved in the web hosting industry. Tell us about your experience in the web hosting field.
![]()
I have been in the web hosting industry for over 10 years in a number of roles including a Marketing Director, Quality Assurance Director, Reseller Program Director and as a General Manager. I am currently the owner and CEO of Green Geeks, my Green Energy Web Hosting Company. I have had some great experiences in the web hosting industry and I have had the pleasure to work with and learn from a wide range of very smart people who have helped me craft my understanding of web hosting and how to run a solid web hosting company.

What inspired you to go green and start a green web hosting service?
![]()
I started learning about the effects of the web hosting industry several years ago. Our industry will be as bad of a polluter as the airline industry by 2020. I had recently had twins and thinking of the world I would be leaving them I decided I would do as much as I could to have the web hosting industry go green. At the time I was working for a web host in Los Angeles and I worked hard to have that company go green but the management rejected the idea. An opportunity arose for me to help start a web hosting company and I took the job with the caveat that they must be a green host. From there I decided to start my own Green Web Hosting Company and I decided Green Geeks would be a great name and a couple of years later here we are with a thriving business and helping to expose more people and web hosts in Green Web Hosting.

What are the differences and advantages between a traditional hosting company and a green one?
![]()
There are several advantages to a Green Web Hosting Company over a web hosting company which has not decided to go green. The most important factor is our lives and the lives of our children. Every bit of energy run on non green servers is energy which is helping to pollute the environment. All of the air conditioners which cool the servers are huge polluters as well. At Green Geeks we offset that pollution by purchasing wind generated energy four servers and offices. Another factor is that our servers are more efficient and use significantly less energy than traditional servers. Studies have shown that today's energy efficient servers are far more powerful, more efficient and have greater uptime than traditional servers so our customers get better web hosting. In addition to this our customers can place one of our This Site Hosted Green logos on their site and let their visitors know they are hosted Green. Many of our clients who have done this tell us that their traffic, pages views and conversions have increased when they let their visitors know that the site is hosted Green.

Tell us about the GreenGeeks data center and the technology that is used. In terms of security, what measures are being taken to protect your customers data?
![]()
Green Geeks servers are located in a world class co-location facility in San Diego, CA. We use only state of the art Dell servers. The server location is protected 24x7x365 with on site security personnel as well as cameras, card and code security to the data center floor. The facility is equipped with HVAC environmental controls as well as backup power generators and emergency power supplies.

I ask this of everyone we interview, what are your current goals and what direction do you see GreenGeeks going down the road in the future?
![]()
Our goals at Green Geeks are to continue to grow our customer base and our services to those customers. Our company is expanding with excellent new employees as we have found that there are a lot of great people out of work in today's economic environment and we have been fortunate to hire some terrific talent in our expansion. In addition to this we want to continue to be the leader in Green Web Hosting and to lead more hosts down the path of becoming green.
![]()
Thank you very much for spending some time with us. It was a pleasure talking with you.
![]()
Thank You as well, it is always a pleasure to discuss web hosting with you and perhaps we'll see each other again at this year's web hosting conference.
