Can you please share with us the history of iPage, how and when it was started and its milestones over the years?

iPage has been around since 1995. Today, our team provides hosting services to more than 650,000 customers throughout the world. Over the years, we have evolved in so many ways, but the one thing we have always remained focused on is providing customers with easy-to-use tools and builders. In the beginning we offered a simple website builder; today we have expanded our services to offer a suite of tools that allow customers to easily create not only websites, but blogs, shopping carts, content management systems, customer chats and more.

iPage boasts a Powered by 100% wind energy, can you please tell us about this interesting feature?

I'd love to! Essentially it means that we buy wind-driven Renewable Energy Credits to offset our electrical use. For every KWH of electricity we use in our data centers and business offices, we buy a credit that is applied to the supply of wind energy. By doing this, we have prevented the release of 2,660 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The approach we have taken means that not only our business, but our customers websites are eco-friendly. We have also implemented other, simpler measures like removing Styrofoam and paper cups from our lunch room, we're strictly a washable mug shop; implementing paper recycling; minimizing vampire use (equipment left on or plugged in).

More and more website owners are concerned with hacker attacks and spam. What does iPage do to help prevent that from happening?

Security is one of the things that differentiates iPage. Our network protocol includes firewalls, database lockdowns and advanced encryption practices. iPage's NOC (network operations center) monitors our infrastructure 24x7 and has systems in place to close any security holes that we discover. Our network is locked down tight and we frequently add new security protections. Moreover, iPage empowers customers to protect themselves. As part of our hosting package, we provide customers with SiteLock's daily malware and spam scans, and business verification. Customers who meet security and verification criteria are provided with a certificate they can place on their sites.

Another concern for many site owners is website backup. What tools are iPage customers offered to manage their backups?

We take snapshots of our network and our Support Team assists customers in retrieving files if they get damaged or deleted. Still, for the quickest and most thorough recovery, we strongly encourage customers to backup their sites locally. We even offer a free year of online backup (2GB!) through Carbonite to give an added level of security. We also offer an inexpensive Backup and Restore service, which gives customers instant access to their file backups directly through their control panel.

Can you please tell us about iPage's data centers, technology and the equipment used?

iPage Interview With CEO

iPage utilizes two data centers in Massachusetts, runs more than 800 servers and uses half-a-Petabyte of storage. Rather than the more traditional server-by-server architecture, our network infrastructure uses server pools, which allows virtually any server on our network the ability to access website files when a request occurs. Essentially, the best machine available will be the one to serve a customer's pages. The result is few failover points, faster page loads and fewer disruptions than traditional hosting infrastructures.
